Inmate indicted in ’05 murder in Hickman Co.

HICKMAN CO., Tenn. – An inmate currently serving time in North Carolina has been indicted for the 2005 murder of 25-year-old Jennifer Smith.

John Wayne Boyer, 52, was indicted earlier this week on one count of first degree murder.

Smith’s body was found in April 2005 behind a concrete barrier in an abandoned parking lot off Interstate 40 in Hickman County.

Authorities matched a DNA sample take from Smith to Boyer, who was convicted of second degree murder in North Carolina in 2007.

Authorities said Boyer worked as a truck driver in 2005 and picked Smith up at a truck stop.

After the two had sex they reportedly got into an argument that resulted in her death.

Boyer’s current sentence in North Carolina expires in 2017.
